Flora

The typical native flora at the height of 2.000 m is represented by alpine pastures, whereas arboreal and shrub species, such as "tabaquillos" (also called, "queñoas") and "horcomolle" appear between 1.700 and 2.000 meters over sea level. Between 1.700 and 500 meters over sea level the flora changes again to give rise to the bush and a wider variety of species, along with a lush and heterogeneous group of trees, shrubs, epiphytes, cactaceaes, twining and creeping plants and dense thickets interrupted by coastal woods.

The most frequently found arboreal species and shrubs are the "coco tree", the "aguaribay", the "molle de beber", the "algarrobo" (carob tree), the "tala" (hackberry tree), the "tintinaco", the "espinillo", the "chañar". Other species commonly found are the "Piquillines", the "tusca", the "brea" and the "garabatos". Scrubs and aromatic herbs, such as the "poleo" (pennyroyal), "usillo" –also called "azahar de campo", "peperina", "salvias moradas y blanca", ""menta cirata",(mint) "peperina de las lomas", "muña muña", "tomillo" (thyme), "carqueja" , "mastuezo o berro de agua" (watercress), "culantrillo",(maidenhair fern) "llantel" and "toronjil " (lemon balm) are also part of the native flora of the region.

Fauna

La Constancia is a special place for practicing birdwatching. A wide variety of birds like eagles, condors, "jotes" and "caranchos", (different types of buzzards), "aguiluchos" (falconiform birds) and owls can also be observed in inmost contact with the natural environment. Other birds, which are also part of the typical fauna, are the "pájaro carpintero" (woodpecker), "rundun", "urraca", (magpie),"pitojuanes", "chingolos", "tijeretas", "colibríes de cola larga" (long-tailed hummingbirds); "reyes del bosque", "golondrinas" (swallows), "tordos" (starling), "perdices" (partridge), "martinetas", "atajacaminos"; songbirds such as the "jilguero", (goldfinch)" and the zorzal" (thrush). Within the reptile and mammalian families, the native fauna is represented by the "iguana",(an arboreal herbivorous lizard), foxes, pumas and hares respectively.
